Editor’s Note: The publication of the March Edition was intentionally delayed by a day, as not to release it on April Fool’s Day, as none of the news contained in this edition is a joke or prank.

Game Announcements:

  • Renegade Games announced Lanterns Dice: Lights in the Sky, a roll-and-write game designed by Chris Bryan with artwork from Beth Sobel. The game is expected to be available in May.

  • Restoration Games announced a publication partnership with Mondo for a new game series titled Unmatched from designers Rob Daviau, JR Honeycutt, and Justin D. Jacobson. This series is being launched with two titles --the two-player-only Unmatched: Robin Hood vs. Bigfoot, and the two or four player Unmatched: Battle of Legends, Volume One. It is built on the core of Star Wars: Epic Duels, a 2002 release from Hasbro, co-designed by Daviau and Craig Van Ness.

  • Osprey Games announced that in August it will release Undaunted: Normandy, a two-player deck-building strategy game designed by David Thompson and Trevor Benjamin, with illustrations by Roland MacDonald. Set in the aftermath of the D-Day landings, Undaunted: Normandy puts players in command of opposing forces in the European theatre of World War II, either leading US troops into occupied France or taking charge of the German defence and beating back the Allied advance.

  • Osprey Games announced Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter, a new miniatures board game building on the critically acclaimed Wildlands series from designer Martin Wallace. The game is expected to be released in October.

  • Renegade Game Studios and Oni Press announced The Aquicorn Cove Board Game, designed by Steve Ellis, Tyler Tinsley, Ben Eisner, and Tim Eisner.  Adapted from the Oni Press original graphic novel by Katie O'Neill, The Aquicorn Cove Board Game will encourage players to dive into an underwater conservation adventure. The expected release is in late 2019.

  • In partnership with German publisher Funtails, Renegade Game Studios announced that the upcoming Glen More II: Chronicles, will be available in English worldwide. Glen More II: Chronicles will hit shelves late 2019.

  • Daily Magic Games announced the newest game set in the Valeria universe, Margraves, a hand and resource management game in which each player becomes a Margrave themselves defending the land of Valeria.

  • Quined Games announced that, later this year, it will release two pocket-sized card games on the European game market, Sprawlopolis and Circle the Wagons, previously published by Button Shy.

  • Quined Games announced its third Masterprint title for 2019 (#26) will be Chicago 1875: City of the Big Shoulders. They will print a Masterprint edition for distribution throughout Europe and it will include all Kickstarter Stretch Goals, but not the expansion. The expansion will not be included in the box, but will be available in very limited quantities.

  • Funforge announced Antione Bauza's sequel to Tokaido, Namiji. Like Tokaido, Namiji has players taking a trip, illustrated again by Xavier Gueniffey Durin, around the board, but this time players are taking a boat through islands, fishing and admiring the sights.

  • The classic action film Die Hard is being turned into a board game. Titled Die Hard: The Nakatomi Heist Board Game, publishers at OP Games (aka USAopoly) told Polygon that it will be a one-versus-many asymmetric experience. More information will be released prior to the launch this spring. Die Hard: The Nakatomi Heist Board Game appears to be an entirely new tabletop game, developed internally at OP. It will be available this spring at select retailers. No price point was announced.

  • Wizkids announced the post-apocalyptic ocean board game Flotilla, a 2-5 player game by designers J.B. Howell and Michael Mihealsick.  

  • Capstone Games announced that it has partnered with  Splotter Spellen for the first time to bring back Bus for a special 20th Anniversary Edition, coming this October at Spiel 2019.

  • Plaid Hat Games announced the 2-4 player game Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein, based on Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein, coming late summer.

Expansion Announcements:

  • Days of Wonder announced the Memoir '44: New Flight Plan expansion.

  • Restoration Games announced Fireball Island: Spider Springs, the next expansion for Fireball Island, which adds another island tray. “You still get to it through the caves, but now it interacts with the main island. Specifically, a broken bridge connects them, with an ember marble on it. When a fireball hits it or when you launch it directly, it drops down into the new tray. At the base of the tray, is a spring-loaded web contains small plastic spiders. When the marble hits, the catch releases, launching the spiders into the air. In short, more mayhem.”

  • Portal Games announced release dates for three major expansions: Detective: L.A. Crimes by Ignacy Trzewiczek and Mateusz Zarod, the first expansion for an award-winning Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game, will be available on March 28. Robinson Crusoe: Mystery Tales by Ignacy Trzewiczek and Joanna Kijanka is the second big expansion for Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island. It includes the campaign (titled The Lost City of Z). Mystery Tales are going to hit the streets on April 25. 51st State: Allies is the second expansion for 51st State Master Set, a card game by Ignacy Trzewiczek and Portal Games. The expansion introduces three new factions: Iron Gang, Uranopolis, and Sharrash. 51st State: Allies are going to hit the streets on May 23.

  • Nauvoo Games teased its next expansion for Stockpile on Facebook, saying "It is great to see Stockpile taking the top spot for the best Stock Market board game of all time. Just wait, it is about to get better with Stockpile: Illicit Investments coming to kickstarter soon."

Release Date Announcements:

  • Renegade Games announced that Slap It!, a "monstrously cute speed game" designed by Kane Klenko, is now available.

  • Portal Games’ Detective: L.A. Crimes, by Ignacy Trzewiczek and Mateusz Zarod, the first expansion for Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game, was released on March 28. The expansion lets you play as a group of LAPD detectives solving three cases set in Los Angeles in the 80s, forming together a short campaign.

  • Floodgate Games announced that pre-orders for Bosk start on April 22, with retail release in July.

Digital Board Game Announcements:

  • Portal Games Digital announced that their Tides of Time mobile game will be released soon on both Android and iOS.

  • A digital Steam version of the board game Lorenzo il Magnifico went on Kickstarter from Cranio Creations, and will be running until Saturday, April 13.

  • Machi Koro is now available to play online on Yucata.de.

Other Game Tidbits:

  • Renegade Game Studios and WizKids announced the upcoming Wardlings campaign setting. Designed by industry veteran Elisa Teague, this D&D 5th Edition compatible book will give players a chance to create and explore stories centered around the miniatures from WizKids' Wardlings product line.  

  • Ian O'Toole showed off some artwork from the upcoming Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell: A Board Game of English Magic, which is coming soon from Osprey Games.

  • Gale Force Nine revealed a sneak peek of their upcoming reprint of the classic board game Dune.

  • Martin Wallace announced a resolution to his long standing feud with Eagle-Gryphon Games regarding the rights to Age of Steam and other games.

  • AEG announced the second game of its Big Game Night event that it runs at Gen Con and PAX Unplugged would be the fast-playing easy-to-learn card game Point Salad, designed by the team at Flatout Games.

Other Industry Tidbits:

  • Daily Magic Games announced that Levi Mote and Sarah Sharp have officially resigned from their 3-year post as partners in the tabletop games publishing company effective January 15, 2019, and will pursue the expansion of their own company, Creator’s Companion, on a full-time basis.

  • Stonemaier Games released a 2018 stakeholder report, and said it made $9.6M in revenue, up from $7.1M in 2017. The company also noted that Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig "hasn't sold as well as I'd hoped and predicted," and said that founder Jamie Stegmaier will release a new game design in 2019, but will not attend this year’s Gen Con.

  • HeidelBAR Games announced it is no longer part of the Asmodee Group, but an independent company. Ownership has been transferred to Heiko Eller-Bilz, the previous studio manager. Much remains the same in other respects: the studio office will remain in Miltenberg, Germany, as will the HeidelBAR team. Its partnership with Asmodee will not completely end, since it will continue to cooperate with different Asmodee units internationally. Its first game TAGS will remain with Asmodee, and HeidelBAR Games will continue to support TAGS wherever they can.

  • At GAMA, Asmodee North America announced an exclusive distribution agreement with publisher CMON Limited for its tabletop games line in North America.

  • Brian "Big Mac" McCarthy, Game Developer for Indie Boards and Cards and Action Phase Games for the last three years, passed away on the night of Tuesday, March 14.

  • Renegade Game Studios announced that Teri Litorco, who spent the last six years with Geek & Sundry, has joined their team as Senior Marketing Manager.


  • Funded: Wavelength, Millennium Blades: Collusion, Winterborne, Tiny Epic Tactics, Mechanica, Shadows of Brimstone Adventures, The Pursuit of Happiness: Experiences, Throw Throw Burrito, Aftershock: San Francisco and Venice, Coloma, High Rise, Valeria: Card Kingdoms – Crimson Seas, Graphic Novel Adventures - Season 2, Thrive, Summit: Teams expansion, Paladins of the West Kingdom, Roland Wright ~ A Simultaneous Roll & Write {& Erase} Game, Iwari, Feudum: Rudders and Ramparts, Copenhagen, Chocolate Factory.

  • Launched: Flapjack Flipout!, Glen More II: Chronicles, Root: The Underworld Expansion, Dark Side of the Mine, Tsukuyumi: Full Moon Down, Exodus Chronicles, Dinos Not Assembled, Domina Anthology, featuring Pralaya, Miraris, and Argoat, Freshwater Fly: A Strategic Fly Fishing Game, Handsome.

  • TMG announced it canceled its Kickstarter campaign for Dragon's Interest and said it plans to re-work it internally and relaunch it soon.
