Game Announcements:

  • BoardGameTables.com announced that its next game would be Bites, a "new version of the Spiel des Jahres Recommended Big Points with a new theme, more engaging components, and rule tweak cards to make sure every play is different."

  • Renegade Games and Dire Wolf Digital Studios announced Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne, a standalone strategic deckbuilding card game coming in August, that plays 2-4 players aged 12+ in 30-45 minutes.

  • Bezier Games has announced the coming release of Silver, a unique card game piloting a whole new series. Silver will be debuting as Bezier's 2019 Gen Con release and then hits stores in September, followed by Silver Bullet later in the Fall just in time for Essen Spiel.  Silver Bullet is a stand-alone game but can also be combined with Silver, featuring fourteen brand new residents and special abilities, as well as a shiny silver bullet token to let you take aim at any villager after nightfall.

  • Formal Ferret announced two new games, The Rival Networks and Weird Stories. The Rival Networks, co-designed by Gil Hova and JR Honeycutt, is a scaled-down two-player version of The Networks that is playable in about 15 minutes. Gil is aiming for "about a $20 price point." Gil added "I’m not 100% sure of the timeline of the game yet. I’d love to Kickstart it by early next year, but I can’t promise you that it’ll be my next Kickstarter project. I’ll know more by the end of the year!" Weird Stories is a light storytelling RPG for 2-4 players, with "a depth and complexity similar to Fiasco and Microscope." Gil added, "I’m not certain of the timeline of this game either. There might be a Kickstarter in its future, but I’ll probably release it as a PDF/POD game before then."

  • Spielworxx announced it will be publishing Squaring Circleville, designed by Matt Wolfe.

  • KTBG announced Fossilis, a 2 to 5 player game where players become palaeontologists working the dig site looking for a find that could make their career. As players remove the top layers of sand, clay, and stone they'll discover trace fossils, which can be exchanged for tools, the plaster necessary to extract bones, and Discovery Points.  

  • Z-Man announced Pandemic: Rapid Response, a real-time cooperative game, offering "a whole new Pandemic experience."

  • Hollandspiele announced Escape from Hades, "a science fiction hex-and-counter solitaire wargame extravaganza," coming later this year from designer Fred Manzo and developer Hermann Luttmann.

  • Blue Orange teased Kingdomino Duel in an Instagram post, saying “Play testing Kingdomino Duel... #kingdomino #gencon2019.”

  • Board&Dice announced Escape Tales: Low Memory, an escape room in a card game form, with no time limits on puzzles, immersive exploration and a set of hard choices that will immerse you deeply into a riveting story of a cyberpunk future. Escape Tales: Low Memory is the next product in the Escape Tales line. It is a separate story that does not require ownership or even knowledge of Escape Tales: The Awakening to play and enjoy. The game will premiere at Essen Spiel 2019.

  • Board&Dice teased two new surprises it will be announcing at UK Games Expo: “The first game will be a reprint of a beloved classic form 2012 that is currently out of print. We are very happy to be bringing back this amazing game to the market in a Deluxe Master Set form. The second game is an all-new design by Daniele Tascini (Tzolkin, Teotihuacan). This time dice will be rolled -- and used in a surprising, interesting and fresh mechanism.“

  • Paizo launched two new products to make "a better, faster, and smarter" Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. The new 440-card Core Set and 550-card Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path expansion are now available at paizo.com and local gaming stores.

  • Catalyst Game Labs announced the sixth edition of the Shadowrun roleplaying game, Shadowrun: Sixth World, debuting this summer.

Expansion Announcements:

  • Level 99 Games announced Pixel Tactics Legends, an expansion for Pixel Tactics. The cards in this box were previously published as three separate minipacks: Seven Sisters, Price of Victory, and Argent University. Get updated versions of these heroes together in one box. Pixel Tactics Legends is estimated to be released in August, and is currently available for pre-order.

  • Alderac announced Space Base: Command Station, which allows players to expand their games of Space Base to include two more players. The box is designed to be large enough to hold Space Base Base, the Shy Pluto Expansion, and additional future expansions all in one storage box.

  • Burnt Island Games announced Endeavor: Age of Expansion. Endeavor: Age of Expansion is for 2-5 players, ages 13+, plays in approximately 90 minutes, and requires the base game to play. It will be launching on Kickstarter on June 18, with fulfillment in late late Spring/early Summer 2020.

Release Date Announcements:

  • Holy Grail announced that Museum, designed by Oliver Melison and Eric Dubus, was available online and in stores.

  • Floodgate Games announced that 3 Laws of Robotics, a “lively deduction game for 4-8 players in which you know everyone's information except your own,” was now available to order.

  • The Wild Optimists announced that Escape Room In A Box:  Flashback, the sequel to Escape Room In A Box: The Werewolf Experiment, is now available in retail from Mattel.

  • White Wizard announced that Sorcerer will be available in local game stores worldwide on June 20, and is also now available for pre-order.

  • Eggertspiele announced that preorders for Matt Leacock's Era: Medieval Age are now open. Pre-orders should deliver shortly after Gen Con.

  • Portal Games announced that Imperial Settlers: Roll & Write, a "quick engine-building game with roll and write mechanics," is now available for pre-order.

  • Restoration Games announced that Conspiracy: The Solomon Gambit will premiere at Origins Game Fair, June 12-16 in Columbus, Ohio, at Booth 547. They will have a very limited supply at the show. Conspiracy comes to stores in August.

  • Plaid Hat announced it has delayed the release date of Battlelands to "late summer/early fall this year."

Digital Board Game Announcements:

  • The 7 Wonders Facebook page teased a 7 Wonders Duel mobile app, with the caption “WORK IN PROGRESS. We're working on a project that should please you…”

  • Asmodee Digital has announced that Invaders from Afar is now available as a DLC for Scythe.

Other Game Tidbits:

  • Just One, LAMA, and Werewords were nominated for the Spiel des Jahres - Germany's "game of the year" award - while Carpe Diem, Detective, and Wingspan were nominated for the Kennerspiel des Jahres. The winners of the Spiel and Kennerspiel des Jahres will be announced in Berlin, Germany on July 22, 2019.

  • The Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design announced the nominees for the 2019 Origins Awards, for board games, card games, collectible games, family games, miniatures, roleplaying games, roleplaying supplement, and game accessories. The full list of nominees can be found here.

  • Cardboard Edison announced the winners of the 2019 Cardboard Edison Award -- First Place: Umbra Via, Second Place: Night Market, and Third Place: Four Humors.

  • Designer Matthew Dunstan wrote a designer diary on BGG for Adventure Games in the style of a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story.

  • Repos announced that 7 Wonders has now sold over 1M copies, and 7 Wonders Duel half a million.

  • Portal Games announced the upcoming Kickstarter campaign for the second edition of the award-winning game, Pret-a-Porter. The campaign begins on July 8. Pret-a-Porter was previously released in a small print run at Essen 2010. It has been out of print for years since. The new edition represents a completely redesigned project with artwork by Kwanchai Moriya, with all game materials rewritten.

  • SpyGlass Games cancelled its VENOM Assault: Villains & Valor campaign on May 1, with a relaunch date of May 6.

  • The Kodama 3D Kickstarter campaign from Indie Boards & Cards was suspended.

  • An unauthorized campaign for A Game of Thrones Card Game was suspended by Kickstarter, shortly afterward a similar campaign was launched and subsequently suspended by IndieGogo.
